Carving a New History made of Bamboo And Iron
The entrance of Gorontalo State University (UNG) has now stood an aesthetic monument that can pamper the eyes.
It is a historical monument. Why is that, because the monument is named the largest Covid-19 monument that was also inaugurated during the covid-19 pandemic.
The shape exactly resembles a yellow mask, with a height of up to 3.5 meters and has a width of up to 6 meters made of bamboo skin and has an iron frame.
The Covid-19 mask has a unique shape by accentuating the carvings of the mouth and nose, which are supported by the distinctive color of bamboo, so that this can attract tourists.
At the stage of making, this mask monument requires 10 pieces of woven bamboo, each of which measures 2.5 x 3 meters.
And it takes about 7 days to make the contemporary woven mask.
Pipin Idris, as well as some of his friends who are members of the Huntu Artdistrik Community were entrusted by gorontalo state university (UNG) to build this historic monument.
He also has his own reasons by choosing a monument style that is slightly tilted right.
"If the monument stands tall, then people will think that the monument is a form of mask," he said.
it added also, the shape of the mouth and nose contained in the monument mask is a separate art value that exists on the monument.
According to UNG Rector, Eduart Wolok said the inauguration of the Covid-19 monument is not to commemorate the existence of the Covid-19 virus.
"But how do we understand this situation, and this monument will be a sign for us how to start a new era to adapt and deal with this virus that is not easy,"he said while giving a speech at the inauguration of the monument.
The first Covid-19 memorial place in the world was inaugurated directly by the Chairman of BPK RI Agung Firman Sampurna.
Although only made of bamboo, but it can be certain that the monument will stand more than 5 years.
